Rated 4 out of 5 by RonHazen from Good looking tub enclosureI installed my Dreamline tub enclosure a week ago it looks good and works great. I would recommend that the installation directions address installation on a enameled steel bath tub, I had concerns about drilling the steel tub.
I'm installing on a cast iron tub. Do I need to drill the bottom threshold into the tub?

Thank you for reaching out toe DreamLine, gino01. The Essence tub door does need to be installed into the threshold of your tub for proper installation. My installer tells me I have a "porcelain covered cast iron tub." And that drilling into my tub may cause it to split and he is encouraging me to NOT buy this tub. Will drilling into my tub cause it to split, crack or other damage?

We had the same issue having a cast iron tub. Kohler said it's very awkward and unusual that a bottom track has to be attached that way and he recommended me to absolutely NOT drill holes into the porcelain coated cast iron tub as this can chip or even create a little crack. Water then could get into the crack and the cast iron will eventually start to rust and the porcelain will flake off.... I wish DreamLine would point out this issue very clear on every site they offer this product.

we purchased the ESSENCE shower/tub door. The install instructions on fig 2 say "W1 - 1/4" and "W2 - 1/16" what does that mean?
Asked by: tara
Great question! W1 is the measurement at the top of your shower opening and W2 is the measurement of the width across the threshold. It is possible that they may be different. Your measurement across the top may be 60" (W1) and the bottom measurement may be 59.75 (W2). As it states on Page 6 of the manual you will need to subtract 1/4" from W1 to bet your length for the top of your opening. Subtract 1/6" from W2 to get your bottom rail measurement. Hope this helps. Great question. Unfortunately, DreamLine does not sell direct to the consumer so we can not provide pricing at this time. You are welcome to click on the Where To Buy link at the top of the web page, put in your zip code and retailers in your area will come up. You may also put the model number in your internet browser and retailers that sell that shower door will come up. At that point you can compare pricing.
